Amending the secondary school certificate in Türkiye 2023:
After officially enrolling in a Turkish university and obtaining a student document, the student is required to obtain an equivalency document known in Turkish as “DENKLİK BELDESİ” from the university.
There are two options for making this transaction.
The student can do it either at the Turkish Embassy, specifically at the Cultural Attaché Department, in the country in which the student resides (this option is usually faster), or he can do it at the Turkish Education Directorate in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul.
Why do universities require the equivalency process for their bachelor’s students?
The goal of the document request is to achieve equality between foreign students and Turkish students in the fields of education and research, as well as to facilitate legal job opportunities for foreign students after graduation in Turkey.
Documents required to complete the equation:
- The secondary school certificate is certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the embassy of the student’s country.
- Transcript documents (school clearance) for the last three years of study certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the embassy.
- Residence card or application paper in addition to the student visa.
- Final admission paper to the university.
- Passport in addition to a copy of the personal information page and the entry stamp page to Turkey.
Note: If the documents are written in languages other than Arabic, English, Turkish, Russian, or Bulgarian, they must be duly translated and certified. Except for passports
Equivalency procedures in the Directorate of Education:
- The student himself, the guardian, or the student’s legal representative can carry out these procedures.
- An application to obtain an equivalency document must be filled out, and it can be obtained from the equivalency registration office in the directorate.
- The student submits the required documents in full to the equivalency registrations window.
- An appointment will be made to receive the equivalency document with the certificate after the completion of the transaction.
- It takes a minimum of two weeks to issue the equivalence document.
Note: Distance education certificates are not subject to the equivalency process.
