What is the YKS test?
The YKS test is a test conducted by the ÖSYM Foundation for secondary students wishing to enroll in Turkish universities. YKS test is an abbreviation of the word “Yüksek Öğretim Kurumları Sınavı”, which in Arabic means “Higher Education Institutions Examination”.
This test is taken at the end of the high school year or after the end of high school and is limited to Turkish and foreign students who studied high school in Turkey. The YKS test is considered similar to aptitude tests in some Arab countries, and it is the qualifying test for admission to Turkish universities.
The YKS test consists of three main sections:
section One - (TYT - Temel Yeterlilik Testi):
- This section is mandatory and constitutes 40% of the total result.
- It includes a test in the Turkish language, mathematics, sciences (biology, physics, chemistry), philosophy, history, geography, religion and ethics.
- It aims to measure students’ language, mathematics, and general knowledge skills.
- The test duration is 135 minutes and includes 120 questions.
- 40 finished questions for the Turkish language test, 40 questions for the mathematics test, and the rest of the questions are distributed among the rest of the subjects.
Second section:
Allows students to choose either the AYT (Area Knowledge) test or the YDT (Foreign Language Skills) test.
This section constitutes 60% of the total score.
a. Test (AYT _AYT Yabanci Dil Test knowledge in specialized fields):
It is divided into a literary section and a scientific section.
It includes specialized subjects and skills in the Turkish language, social sciences, or mathematics, depending on the chosen department.
B. Test (YDT_YDT_yabancı dil testi foreign language skills):
It is conducted in the foreign language (Arabic, English, Russian, German, French) and is used to accept students into colleges that rely on these languages, such as: departments of English language and literature, translation and interpretation, and colleges of tourism guidance.
It includes 80 questions and the test duration is 120 minutes
